Providing Professional Hospitality Training for People with Disabilities

Our commitment at Hyatt is to care for people, enabling them to be their best. In alignment with this ethos, we have partnered with The Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) to further strengthen our core commitment of offering learning opportunities to individuals with disabilities.

This initiative is a part of The Foundation of Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability, which encompasses introductory programs to the hotel industry, classroom training, and three-month internship opportunities. The primary aim of this project is to empower individuals with disabilities by equipping them with essential skills for working in a regular work environment, fostering integration, and providing a pathway to sustainable employment.

Since the establishment of this partnership in 2018, over 20 hearing-impaired people have interned and been trained in various departments at the hotel such as housekeeping, kitchen, food and beverage. As a result of the program, two of the seven trainees who completed their internship at the hotel are now working as full-time employees. One colleague works in the culinary department, while another works in the housekeeping department.

Since the inception of this partnership in 2018, more than 20 individuals with hearing impairments have successfully completed internships and undergone comprehensive training across various hotel departments, encompassing roles in housekeeping, kitchen operations, and food and beverage services. A testament to the program's effectiveness is the seamless transition of two of these trainees into full-time positions within our team. One of our colleagues now actively contributes to our culinary department, while another excels in the housekeeping division.

Furthermore, demonstrating our commitment to this cause, the Human Resources department of Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit took an active role in an orientation program held at the Asia-Pacific Development and Training Center for Persons with Disabilities' training facility. Additionally, our hotel has made a significant contribution of over 800,000 Thai Baht or approximately USD 25,600 to the foundation. This financial support is intended to help establish the foundation as a central hub for hotel training, accessible to individuals with disabilities from all across Thailand.

The hotel continues to reinforce its core commitments to create an inclusive workplace where employees with disabilities would feel comfortable, welcome, and valued as well as to maintain meaningful connections with the communities and make this world a better living place for all.
