Barbara Ewals

CEO, International Society of Geriatric Oncology

Barbara Ewals is the current CEO of the International Society of Geriatric Oncology, also called SIOG (Société Internationale d’Oncologie Gériatrique) in French, is a multidisciplinary membership-based society with members engaged in more than 80 countries around the world. Our network includes geriatricians, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, anaesthesiologists, nurses and allied health professionals. SIOG since 2019 has a Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). 

Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement in Public Health and Climate Resilience has been in the forefront of her career. She was one of the key experts that was tapped by UN-ESCAP & UN-University to validate the guidelines they were developing to assist member states, public & private organizations as well as civil societies in managing their partnerships to implement the UN’s 2030 Agenda. This guidelines was then published and unveiled during the Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2018 – which is also the regional high level political forum for UN-ESCAP’s members states. She is also a certified Humanitarian Negotiations trainer by the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI).  

Before SIOG, she was the Executive Director of Initiative for Global Resilience (i4gr) – an organization working on Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response – especially on how Climate Related Displacement affects urban and non-urban spaces. She was the Conference Convenor (content provider) for the REDCON 2021 event (Resilience in Disasters & Emergency Conference and Exhibition) as well the one of the Organizing Team on the thematic sessions on Urban Resilience at the GP 2022 (7th Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction) hosted by UN DRR and the Indonesian Government.  

She has extensive global experience spanning 15 years as a Partnerships & Advocacy expert in leading nonprofit and profit-oriented organizations and has held various positions in organizations based in Thailand, Singapore, Geneva and the Philippines.
